A Lovely Surprise in Middleville!
Stumbled upon this absolute gem quite by chance – the Middleville & District Museum, nestled in the heart of the village of Middleville, Ontario. Housed in a charming 1861 stone schoolhouse, this small-town museum is brimming with local history and heartfelt tributes to the pioneers who built this region from the ground up.
The visit was completely unplanned, yet turned out to be wonderfully memorable. A lovely local guide took the time to share countless stories and insights about the area’s past – her passion was infectious, and the depth of knowledge she offered gave the exhibits real life.
It’s places like this that quietly preserve the soul of our communities. I wholeheartedly encourage anyone passing through to stop in, listen, learn, and pay a bit of respect to the history that shaped us. You won’t regret it. Thanks to: Yurii C.
Up Close & Personal The Middleville Museum which is housed partially in the original old schoolhouse is a remarkable little museum, housing an extensive collection of local and historical items. We found it easy to fully appreciate the life of early settlers and homesteading families typical of eastern Ontario because we could get so close to the displays. The old schoolhouse is wonderfully preserved as the backbone of this experience and we could easily imagine kids running from area farms and homes to get there on time as the schoolmistress rang the bell. Special items include a fully restored motorized turn of the century bus with original wooden wheels and a magnificent antique horse-drawn hearse which includes the original sleighs that could be added for use in winter. We spent several hours there enjoying the sights and the beautiful and peaceful setting. A sample review from TripAdvisor Thanks to: Sue R
