Weaving Workshops
"Each three hour workshop will teach the basics of weaving by exploring pattern, texture and material on a variety of frame style looms. Each attendee will have the opportunity to make multiple small woven art objects with guidance, as well as access to specialized literature, and the opportunity to build community connections in the craft world. There will also be a chance to work on a small selection of other basic looms and to take part in a communal tapestry style weaving of a predetermined image. At the end of the workshop, the group will be provided lunch, where they will discuss the weaving projects and show off their newly made art pieces." Layne Sharpe, Instructor

The first day we will learn to prepare the fibre for dyeing through two processed called scouring and mordanting which allow the fibres to take in dye evenly as well as fix it to the cloth. On the second day we will create the dye baths, add pattern resists to our samples, then dye and scour our finished pieces. We will end with a show and tell aspect where each person can share what they have created!" Layne Sharpe, Instructor

The Middleville and District Museum started in an 1861 stone schoolhouse in the village of Middleville, Ontario. The museum building expanded in the 1970s and again in 2013 to over 5000 square feet to accommodate its extensive collection of local artifacts which include a pioneer cabin, pioneer tools, horse drawn hearse, 1922 Model T Ford, woven textiles, agricultural implements, household items and an entire classroom! The Indigenous, Blacksmith, Cobbler, Carpenter, General Store, World War and Church exhibits are visitor favourites. The Museum is home to a large collection of local archival and genealogical records.
Come and step into the past and explore pioneer history.
